To get the most out of the site you need your own personal ID. If you are a single subscriber you will already have this. If you are a student at school or college, then you should log on using the school ID and then create your own personal log-on details.

You will then be able to access the forum, conferencing and on-line assessment.

How do I search for topics?

You can find your topic either by selecting the appropriate module and then choosing from the sections listed, or you can try searching. Enter a word (of at least 3 characters) into the search box and a list will be displayed of all the pages that are relevant. If the word you have entered features in our glossary then you will also get a definition of that word.

Some searching ideas

  • Each page on the site has a unique ID number displayed at the top right. You can enter this number in the search box too and go directly to that page.
  • Find pages relating to famous mathematicians from the past - for example try searching for Pythagoras
  • There is a growing collection of on-line assessments. To find them, search for o-test
  • For a real challenge, look for the timed tests. To find them, search for timed
  • Your favourite mathematics program might be being used! Search for Cabri

What types of topics are there?

There are various types of interactivity indicated by these symbols:
Algebraic or analytical, often involving step-by-step solutions to problems
Visual or graphical, often involving interactive graphs or diagrams which can be manipulated by mouse actions like drag and drop.
A quiz, usually multiple choice, which marks your answers and gives you a score.
An on-line assessment, or "o-test", which can be multiple choice, true or false, drag and drop, by data entry or cloze. The test is marked and - coming soon - your marks are recorded.

There are also many examination questions, called simply Examples. In every case the question has been taken from an actual exam paper issued by one of the examination boards.
