What's New June 2010 The site is to undergo a complete re-design over summer 2010. In September, along with a new look, one of the major innovations will be the introduction of a full assessment package, similar in style to our partner site at www.mathsnetalevel.com. The content will cover the new specifications for Mathematics for teaching from September 2010 and first examination in 2012. Overall, the site will work in a similar way to MathsNetAlevel, so it should be easy for students and teachers to move between the two. From September, subscriptions to MathsNetGCSE will be handled by Chartwell-Yorke. January 2008 The site is compatible with the two tier level of entry for GCSE, Foundation and Higher. Advice from exam boards is that any student on the C/D borderline should enter at Foundation Level. All contents are targeted at grades D,C and B. October 2007 Note that this site is compatible with the new two tier level of entry for GCSE, Foundation and Higher. The contents are targeted at grades D,C,B. March 2007 A new online flashcard revision page has been added into the Revision section of the Help menu. Click here for a direct link. The worksheets for teachers page has been updated again (see WKS4T in the Help section) with a number of topics extended. The set of revision homework tasks also available here has been extended to over 20 tasks, each with built-in answers designed for whiteboard display. (Please replace your previous copy with this latest one.) January 2007 The worksheets for teachers page (see WKS4T in the Help section) has been updated. A new set of 16 homework tasks especially for the Spring term has been added in, and many other worksheets have been extended. The exam dates page has been updated again for exam sessions in January 2007, March 2007 and June 2007. Remember that the final exam timetable is complicated with the addition of new modular two-tier papers being sat for the first time.

October 2006 The exam dates page has been updated for exam sessions in November 2006, January 2007, March 2007 and June 2007. The final exam timetable is complicated now with the addition of new modular two-tier papers being sat for the first time. August 2006 From September 2006, a new two-tier Mathematics GCSE specification is being introduced which has two levels, namely Higher and Foundation. The Higher tier covers grades A* - D and the Foundation tier covers grades C - G. This is the same model that is used in other subjects, such as science and English. Both tiers will have calculator and non-calculator papers as at present.
There will be little change to the content studied for GCSE mathematics. The only significant change will be to the format into two tiers of the content and the assessment. Coursework requirements will not change. MathsNetGCSE targets grades D, C and B and so it will still cater for the previous Intermediate level (for current Year 11 students), but in addition it is also suitable for candidates in Year 10 studying at either of these new Higher and Foundation levels. Candidates on the new Higher tier aiming for a grade B need to be aware that they will encounter grade A and A* questions on their exam paper. Candidates on the new Foundation tier aiming for a grade C need to be aware that this site includes grade B questions. April 2006 The main improvement recently has been the incorporation of questions based on examinations set by CEA, the exam board for Northern Ireland. The page on exam boards has been expanded to include direct links to course summaries and past papers on the exam board websites themselves.

The coursework topic in the Help section has been expanded to include more advice. Some pages have been "tweaked" to make them fully compatible with Firefox 1.5, which is the browser that MathsNetGCSE recommends. Review on the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM) website. "...Online interactive exam papers are provided and these are designed for printing out. The click of the "Change" button produces a new paper, complete with answers... Scattered throughout these options are multiple choice 'quick tests'. These give the student a quick self checking tool to establish whether the basic concepts have been understood. Rather than being merely a multiple guess exercise, a 100% result can only be achieved if the questions are answered correctly first time. The advice and guidance provided is based on examiners reports and on feedback from online users and trialling in the classroom... Like most good software time is needed to explore the full potential of the resources being offered and to incorporate the materials into a scheme of work but this would certainly be time well spent." September 2005 Over 25 questions from the June 2005 session have been added; more comments have also been added to Examiners' reports, particularly regarding basic arithmetic errors.
The exam dates page includes the November 2005 and January 2006 sessions.
